How colors affect your workplace

Often offices and desks are black and white and don't have many color accents. We usually opt for a modern atmosphere and not for a colorful atmosphere that inspires you. And that while it is very important at a workplace that you have a space around you that inspires and motivates you. How can you do this?

Research has shown that black and white workspaces create a feeling of sadness and depression and a higher chance of burnout. It increases the chance of a burnout by as much as 25%! The studies showed that the colorless spaces had a particularly negative effect on women.

The studies have also shown that the lack of colors in your workspace affects not only our mood but also our productivity.

The effect of colors

Different colors have different effects on you. So you have to decide for yourself what you need in your workspace. We are going to help you a hand.

Do you mainly need inspiration in your workspace? A creative boost? Then use green or orange. Both green and orange are known for having a positive impact on creative thinking. So green and orange are good in a workplace if you want to brainstorm. Both colors also have a positive effect on your concentration. Furthermore, the green color gives an outdoor feeling because it is often associated with nature. This gives a soothing feeling.

But do you really want a calming feeling? Then use blue. Blue tones give a soothing feeling and a fresh look. That is also why the color blue often occurs at the dentist or in the hospital, the intention is to radiate peace and tranquility. Also, because it is reminiscent of the oceans and the colors of the sky, blue gives a cooling feeling and has a positive influence on your concentration. Blue is recommended in a workspace where supreme concentration is required.

You could also use white in your workspace. Yes, we just advised against it, but if you use the color white correctly, it can still have a positive effect on your workspace. White works very well to make a room look and feel bigger than it actually is. That is why it is smart to use white in smaller workspaces. If you do this, however, you must include at least two other color accents in your room, otherwise you will not have any positive effects on your productivity. You should also let enough natural light into the room, otherwise the room will quickly resemble a sterile hospital interior. That's not what you want in your workspace.

If you want to be positively stimulated in your workspace, you should use yellow. Yellow is the color of positivity, since it is often associated with the sun. So yellow is good if you want to create an optimistic atmosphere in your workspace. However, you should be careful with the color yellow, because the color yellow reflects a lot of light. This will make your eyes tire faster and will have a negative effect on your concentration and stamina.

If you work with many others around you and want more connection in the office, it is very wise to bring the color pink into the rooms. The color pink is the color of harmony and brings you more in contact with others.

Using posters to change your space

So do we all have to paint the walls of our workspaces? Well not completely. You could indeed paint a wall in your decired color. However, this takes a lot of time and there is a much easier solution. Posters. Instead of painting a wall, you can also very well apply the color accents by means of a poster. Posters have accents that have the same effect as painting a wall, but hanging a poster is much less time consuming and cheaper. Moreover, you can very easily alternate posters to create a different atmosphere.
